During 2001-2007 caviar that it is sprung from sturgeon has been reduced from 88 tons to 18.57 tons, Infrastructure studies office discussed. The descending trend (78%) of caviar production is resulted from the reduction of sturgeon resources especially fishes of Caspian Sea, it added. There are some factors such as unauthorized and irregular fishing, lack of efficient management, being lost or limited spawning areas and natural habitats, the expansion of the exploitation of oil resources of Caspian Sea, industrial pollutions, urban sewages and agricultural poisons that they are known as the main reasons for Caspian Sea sturgeon reduction, Majlis Research Center said. Furthermore during 2001-2007, fishing sturgeon has been reduced from 870 tons to 225 tons so that the reduction (especially in last decade) can increase the risk of the extinction of valuable species, it added. Finally, all Caspian Sea coastal countries should cooperate to prevent from the extinction of sturgeons, Majlis Research Center emphasized. Moreover, considering natural multiplication and the revival of spawning areas, codifying deterrent laws to prevent from unauthorized fishing, different optional treatments to unauthorized fishing perpetrators, establishing of Gentas fish bank, and preventing from irregular fishing sturgeons in Iran and neighboring countries, it asked. |
